ENT fun

After speaking to the ENT yesterday, he wanted to see him since it had not cleared up since Friday even with medication. I took Ian down to the clinic, and of course he fell asleep on the way. He was still sleeping in the stroller when I took him in because the doctor had said be prepared for a wait. They managed to take his vitals while he slept!!!

So the doctor comes in to see his ear and is totally shocked. He told me that he did not expect it to be this bad. I'm sure he is used to parents kind of overreacting and exaggerating on the phone. Anyway, he called in a doctor above him who basically also had the same reaction. They discussed different things that could be going on. What they agreed was absolutely necessary was to suction out his ear. They were really not sure what to make of the rash that the drainage was causing.

So they take us back to a room with a table and a bunch of big machinery. He's whining and acting a little scared, but being a really big boy about it. They wrap him up in a sheet with his arms down next to his body and have me and 2 other people hold him down while they use this big machine to suction out his ear. OH MY GOD! First of all I can not believe how much puss came out of his ear. Second, my poor little baby. And he was so brave. The doctors kept saying how great he was. They said that they were really concerned because something was moving that shouldn't be moving in there. The tube is clear because it's draining, but it's turned weird or something.

What came out of it is that he is on an oral antibiotic (augmentin which is a broad spectrum) an antibiotic drop for his ears, and steroid creme for the rash on his face. If he is not better in a week they will see him again but bring in the pediatric specialist too. Either way, in 2 weeks he will see the pediatric ENT specialist. There was discussion that his tonsils could be harboring the weird virus/bacteria that is causing all this.

Fun stuff...
